Finding Reliable APA Style Resources Online: Instructional Video

If you don't own a current APA manual, how do you properly follow APA style when you write your papers and manuscripts? That's easy: Watch the video embedded below! Because many online sources say they are showing current, accurate APA style, but actually are not, I made this video featuring only the best, most current APA style information.

If you would like to be notified when other videos are available for viewing, please subscribe to my YouTube channel or Google+ page. All subscribers/followers will be notified the day that each of my videos is uploaded.
The volume of this video may be a bit loud: Consider lowering yours.

Of course the absolute best resource for APA information is the 6th edition manual. The cover looks like this, and I know a lot of you are reluctant to buy the manual but it’s the best $30 you will ever spend. Now on to the topic of this video. Where can you find reliable APA resources online? Well, I have three sources for you. One is the APA Style Blog, one is Purdue OWL, and one is my own website, My Research Editor dot com. First, let’s start with the APA Style Blog. This is what the home page looks like, and the part that we are most interested in is the search bar in the upper right-hand corner of the home page. The reason for that is there’s a ton of information on this blog. So if we go in and we want to, say, find information on how do I cite websites in my paper, I can put in the word “website” and once I click “Search” I get this full list of all the blogs they’ve ever written about anything related to citing or using APA Style regarding websites. So again, that URL is blog.apastyle.org.

Now our next resource is Purdue OWL. It’s the Purdue Online Writing Lab. And unfortunately it’s not as straight-forward getting to APA on Purdue OWL as it is on the APA Style Blog. We actually have three steps that we’re going to go through one by one. First is to click on Research and Citation, then APA Style, and then Formatting and Style Guide. So our first step when we get to the home page--that URL that I put on the screen earlier--you’re going to click the left-hand item that says Research and Citation. Once you do that, this page will open up and you’ll see, again in the middle of the page, APA Style. So we’re going to click on that next, and here we get to the main APA Style page and we want to go to the bottom item, APA Formatting and Style Guide. Once you click that header, this is the main APA Style page that opens up. It says General Format at the top and you’ll see that immense menu of items on the left-hand side. That is gold. Everything you could ever want to know about APA is there. Also, just as an aside to keep in mind, the General Writing tab to the left on the home page of Purdue OWL is an enormous resource for all types of writing issues. I highly recommend using it any time you have questions about general writing. And again, here’s the URL for Purdue OWL.

The third resource I’d like to share with you is the Writing Resources tab at myresearcheditor.com. You can see here that it’s highlighted on my home page. Once you click that “writing resources” menu item, this is the main Writing Resources page. If you scroll down on this page, you’ll see this list of blue, bulleted topics. APA Style is amongst those topics. Once you click on the APA Style menu item, this main APA Style resources page will open. Now, I’ve got lots of resources on here, including my own APA Style instructional videos, as well as external links to sites like the APA Style Blog and Purdue OWL, and others that I have found are very helpful for writers writing with APA Style. And again, here is the URL for my website (myresearcheditor.com/writing-resources.html).
