Sara D. Hauber, Ph.D., has been a professional editor responsible for peer-reviewed academic and medical publications since 2009 and an academic writing tutor and instructor since 2011.

Sara's academic degrees include a B.A. in English, magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota--Twin Cities, an M.A. in Health Communication (minor in Research Methods) from Purdue University, and a Ph.D. in Health Sciences from the University of Limerick, Ireland.

Since the beginning of her Ph.D. in 2021, Sara has been fully engaged with undertaking and publishing her own research.
As an editor, Sara excelled at applying the proper science, substance, and style to other authors' manuscripts. She loves the process of research, the skill of editing, and the art of writing.

A recipient of the prestigious Bilsland Strategic Initiatives Fellowship at Purdue, and shortlisted for doctoral funding from the Irish Research Council in 2023, Sara has assisted with and/or led the development of competitive federal grant proposals, needs assessments, theory-based community programs, randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental studies, and qualitative and quantitative data collection tools.

Her involvement in the planning, execution, analysis, and publication of research at both Research One universities and top-ranked medical centers gives her incredible insight and experience that most editors and scientific writing instructors simply lack. Producing excellent work is her primary goal.
In that vein, Sara conducts her work in accordance with the European Science Foundation's Code of Conduct for Research Integrity, and it is her intent to solely work with clients/authors who do so as well. While editing, Sara was an active member of the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) and she adhered to the AMWA Code of Ethics. She also adheres to the universal requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals, set forth by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). 
In 2020, Sara founded Publication Matters LLC, with a mission "To offer the best, most comprehensive instruction on essential writing skills and journal manuscript-writing skills so that healthcare practitioners at all levels of patient care and from all segments of the population have equal access to--and the proper training and confidence levels to engage in--the traditional modes of sharing evidence-based practice: publishing in peer-reviewed professional journals and presenting at professional conferences."

After more than 13 years in academic and scientific journal publishing, Sara was disheartened by the many biases and prejudices inherent in the field. With Publication Matters LLC, Sara intended to increase equity and diversity in the field.


The resulting My DNP Manuscript writing program was donated to the important advocacy organization DNPs of Color in 2022 and is used as the foundation of the group's manuscript-writing mentorship program.
