Editing Agreement
Throughout this agreement, “I” and “my” refer to the author hiring Sara D. Hauber [SDH] for editing. The terms “written work,” “paper,” and “manuscript” refer to any documents provided to SDH for editing.
As a client of SDH, principal of MyResearchEditor.com and sole member/manager of Publication Matters LLC, I agree to the following terms and conditions. If I am submitting text on behalf of myself and one or more co-authors, I am guaranteeing agreement to the following terms also on their behalf.
A. Roles, Responsibilities, and Assurances
- I understand that the complete contents of any written work I submit to SDH—including all text, figures, tables, reference lists, and appendices—are solely my responsibility, both before and after SDH's edit.
- I confirm that all text is my own creation and has not been plagiarized.
- If any contents of any work I submit to SDH—including text, figures, tables, and appendices—requires copyright approval, I have obtained such rights from the copyright holder to use such contents in my paper.
- I agree that the contents of any paper I submit to any journal for publication or to my graduate committee as part of my requirements in a graduate program, even after having undergone editing by SDH, is solely my responsibility, and that I am responsible for checking the entire document for accuracy after SDH edits my work.
- I agree that I, and only I, will verify the accuracy of direct quotations and the validity or suitability of all citations/references/sources.
- If any legal action is taken against me because of a written work that I hired SDH to edit, I understand that SDH is not held responsible for such written work. If I am sued, SDH is not responsible for any legal fees.
- I understand that in no way can SDH guarantee acceptance of my paper by my selected journal’s editor or my doctoral committee; SDH is simply helping me improve the writing, flow, style, and organization of my work by applying her professional knowledge.
- I agree that it is my responsibility to:
- Attend our scheduled Zoom call at the correct time.
- Provide SDH all of the information necessary to accurately edit my text.
- Carefully check all changes made to the manuscript to ensure that my intended meaning has been preserved.
- Ensure that all data contained in text and in tables/figures is accurate.
- Undertake the actual online submission of my manuscript to my selected publisher (when applicable).
- Take full responsibility for my manuscript once the document leaves SDH’s care.
- Be available via e-mail and/or telephone to answer any pressing queries SDH may have during the editing of my manuscript.
- I agree that the following are SDH’s general responsibilities:
- To make or recommend improvements in the grammar, sentence structure, and flow of my manuscript, where possible.
- To query me on any content or wording that causes confusion.
- To recommend cuts, additions, and text reorganization as necessary.
- To match APA or AMA style as closely as possible, if applicable.
- I understand that it is not SDH’s responsibility to rewrite the text of my paper or add text that is not present in the original draft submitted for editing.
B. Scope of Project, Fees, Payments, and Timeline
- I understand that the services offered by SDH under this current agreement include
- A 50-minute Zoom online video chat to discuss the work submitted for editing.
- Up to 3 hours of comprehensive editing to manually fix errors in spelling, sense, style, grammar, flow, and punctuation that can be made without performing research or accessing my sources, as well as matching APA or AMA style, as appropriate.
- Thoughtful queries designed to help me improve my written work.
- To begin editing my written work, SDH requires an initial editing fee of $395, paid via the payment gateway at https://www.schedulista.com/schedule/publicationmattersllc/ins8r-ftmkf
- This fee includes only the work described in Subsections 1–3 of Section B1, above.
- I agree that, if any additional time is needed for SDH to complete the edit of my paper, SDH will provide me an estimate of time and fees to complete the additional work. If I agree to the new timeline and fees, SDH will complete the edit as described and will invoice me for final payment prior to releasing the edited paper to me. If I do not agree to the further work and fees, SDH will immediately release the partially edited documents to me via email.
- If additional work and fees are agreed, I agree that I must send final payment via the payment gateway SDH provides me via email. Only after this payment is received by SDH’s bank will my final, edited paper be emailed to me.
- I understand that editing fees are only refundable when a refund is initiated prior to our initial scheduled Zoom call. Any refund I request prior to our scheduled Zoom call will be honored, less a $30 cancellation fee.
- Within the subsequent 5 business days (business days are Monday through Friday) after our initial scheduled Zoom call, SDH will complete the work described in Subsections 2–3 of Section B1. The need for additional editing time and associated fees will be communicated to me within this 5 business–day period.
- SDH will adhere to the timeline presented in Section B7, barring emergency circumstances (e.g., severe illness, death of a family member, power outage or natural disaster outside of SDH's control, etc.). Any delays will be communicated to me immediately when their necessity is known.
C. Zoom Cancellations, Changes, and No-Shows
- If a refund is requested prior to the time of the scheduled Zoom call, the call and all editing duties will be immediately cancelled.
- All refunds requested prior to the time of the scheduled Zoom call are subject to a $30 cancellation fee.
- No refunds are available after the initial scheduled Zoom call takes place.
- If I wish to reschedule my Zoom call, I must contact SDH directly at sara@myresearcheditor.com or contact@publicationmatters.com. Such requests must be made more than 12 hours in advance of the scheduled call, or my Zoom appointment is forfeited and can not be rescheduled. Editing of my manuscript will take place, per the terms of Subsections 2–3 Section B1 of this agreement.
- In the event of a no-show (i.e., not attending my scheduled Zoom call and not giving prior notice of my inability to attend), my Zoom appointment is forfeited and can not be rescheduled. Editing of my manuscript will take place, per the terms of Subsections 2–3 of Section B1 of this agreement.
D. Agreement
- I am reserving SDH’s time to (1) meet me via Zoom at our scheduled time and (2) perform editing of my paper or manuscript.
- The terms of this agreement are valid only when I indicate my consent and agreement on the Appointment Scheduling Page.
